WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELING AND THERAPY?
These terms are often used interchangeably and have many similarities. In general, counseling is recommended for specific issues and situations, and often takes place for specific amounts of time. Psychotherapy, tends to explore past issues that may be contributing to present day problems, and is often ongoing. Both counseling and therapy are offered in my practice, depending on the needs and goals of each client. Counseling and psychotherapy are often intertwined and might overlap.
WHAT IS DRAMA THERAPY?
Drama Therapy is an active, experiential approach to facilitating change. Through storytelling, projective play, and purposeful improvisation, participants are invited to rehearse desired behaviors, practice being in relationship, expand and find flexibility between life roles, and perform the change they wish to be and see in the world.
Expressive therapy (or creative arts therapy) includes a wider variety of modalities, including drama therapy, art therapy, music therapy, dance/movement therapy and poetry therapy. These modalities are rooted in theories of creativity and self-expression, which have been integrated into psychotherapy and counseling for more than 70 years,
DRAMA THERAPY IS FOR KIDS, RIGHT?
While Drama therapy and creative arts therapy can be beneficial for kids, it can also be extremely useful for adults or teens who are looking to express themselves in formats beyond standard verbal therapy.
HOW DO I KNOW IF THIS TYPE OF THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Every client is different. My approach to therapy and counseling is integrative, which allows me to utilize a wide variety of approaches. I am able to meet my clients where they are to address their individual needs. Some clients may prefer to do embodied and artistic work in their therapy and others might prefer verbal therapy with a focus on stories, roles and metaphor. It is my priority to collaborate with you so that your therapy can be unique to you and your specific goals.
WHAT IF I’M NOT AN ARTIST OR ACTOR?
You do not need any prior experience in the creative fields to benefit from drama therapy or related modalities. In this work we tap into each person’s inherent creativity to allow you to express yourself in a way that feels natural and leads to feelings of connection, inspiration, strength and bravery.

If you reach out to your insurance company to inquire about out-of-network coverage through your plan, here are some good questions to ask:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
Do I have a deductible? How much is it and how much has been met?
What percentage of the therapy fee is covered?
How many sessions are covered per year?
With out-of-network coverage, it is your responsibility to pay for sessions directly to me and I will provide a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
